You crawl into bed, you get comfortable, you shut your eyes, and then you remember you forgot to lock the back door. Your comfort is disturbed and you must take action.
Life can behave in a similar manner. Just as you’re getting comfortable and in a set pace, there is a change or experience to make you step out of your comfort zone and into action. I’m experiencing life’s little kick to get moving once again.
My current job is moving. I’ve finally decided; I am not. Nashville is a great city with a plethora of exciting opportunities, it’s just not the right path for me and my family at this time, so now, a new journey begins. It’s time to adventure into the professional networking world on a conquest to find the new perfect fit for myself and my digital marketing skills.

Though this new journey will not be rushed, I’ve already started planning, laying out a road map. The first leg of the journey will include:
- Knowledge Transfer Preparation: Document all of my existing job roles and how they are accomplished to share with replacement teammate when the time comes.
- Skills Evaluation: Evaluate all the skills I have against what I may need for new digital marketing positions. Determine the appropriate training steps to develop missing skills or enhance existing skills.
- Build a Brand: Update my resume, LinkedIn, and website accordingly, highlighting digital marketing skills and accomplishments.
This is just the beginning, preparing myself for a new job search. After part one is complete, I will commence part two of the journey, implementing the job search.
How do you prepare yourself for a new job search? What advice can you share?
